AZALEA TRAIL JUNIOR GOLF CLASSIC AT HOLLYTREE COUNTRY CLUB
TYLER, Texas – The 2nd annual Azalea Trail Junior Golf Classic at Hollytree Country Club featured many of the top junior golfers in northern Texas as they competed in one of the first events of the 2008 Northern Texas PGA Junior Golf Tour season. The seventy-seven (77) player field competed in eight different age divisions (Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 12-13, Boys 10-11, Coed 7-9, Girls 10-11, Girls 12-14 & Girls 15-18 ) as players ages 12-18 competed in individual stroke play over 18-holes and players ages 7-11 over 9-holes. Today’s tournament was highlighted by the outstanding play of 7 year old Kyle Cox and 18 year old Jared Johnson. Cox captured the Coed 7-9 division championship with a score of 37 on the back nine and Johnson fired a 1-over par 73 to claim the Boys 16-18 division. Joining Cox and Johnson as Azalea Trail Junior Golf Classic champions are Chapman Herwood (Boys 14-15), Colin Frizzell (Boys 12-13), Blaine Hale Jr. (Boys 10-11), Nichole Birdsong (Girls 15-18), Ariel Tidwell (Girls 12-14) and Kenzie Wright (Girls 10-11).
All Azalea Trail Junior Golf Classic champions will receive an exemption into the 2008 Ewing Automotive East Area Championship to be conducted at Emerald Bay CC on Monday, August 11.
In addition to qualifying for the Ewing Automotive East Area Championship, the age group winners in the Boys 16-18, 14-15, 12-13 and Girls 15-18, 12-14 divisions will receive an exemption into the 2008 TylerPaper.com Championship on September 27-28 at Hollytree CC, which is conducted by the Legends Junior Tour. The winners from the Boys 16-18 and 14-15 divisions will also receive an exemption into the 2008 EDS Byron Nelson Junior Championship on June 30-July 2 at Lakewood CC.
The 2008 Azalea Trail Junior Golf Classic is conducted by the Northern Texas PGA Junior Golf Foundation and SporTyler and is presented by the Tyler Morning Telegraph, CBS 19 and East Texas Radio Group.
